It Started With a Flip-Flop and Three Very Stubborn Dogs.
It was a freezing Pennsylvania winter. Our founder walked into a shoe store with sore shoulders and a question that had been gnawing at him for years: why is walking a dog still this painful? Three energetic dogs pulling in three directions will do that to a person.
Then he spotted it — a thin rubber piece on the bottom of a display flip-flop. Flexible. Resilient. Shock-absorbing. A lightbulb moment so impractical and so obvious it could only come from someone truly obsessed with dogs: what if that material could become a leash?

Early versions gave dogs a little too much freedom — think football-field range. But with a patented internal safety line controlling the stretch, the design evolved into something revolutionary: a leash that absorbs pulling force, corrects behavior without jerking, and protects the shoulders and backs of the humans holding on. Good Morning America noticed. Animal Planet noticed. HGTV, MSNBC, Real Simple, and Modern Dog noticed.
That national platform gave us the confidence and community to push further — and when we used the leftover rubber scraps to create the WUNDERball in 2019, it became our all-time best-selling product.
